Is My Dog Ready
for a Group Class?

Why is it important for dogs to be ready for group classes? Because they are going to be able to learn new behaviors more easily when not overly fearful or distracted by the presence of other dogs and people. Nevertheless, we understand that a certain level of excitement and unruly behavior is normal for dogs with minimal prior training.

For dogs who exhibit excessive fear or aggressive behavior, private training may be more effective. This option allows Fido and his owner to learn at their pace, without distractions.

The following are questions that will help assess your pet's readiness.

Assessment Scale:
1-5 = Reactive or unable to do   /   6-10 = Excellent or no problems
My dog is comfortable in close proximity to other dogs (10 feet or less).
Check if your dog displays any of these behaviors around other dogs.
Is this your first dog?
Is your dog up-to-date on all vaccinations recommended for his/her age?
Has your dog had a recent clear fecal exam?
My dog is able to remain quiet (not barking) around most dogs.
My dog is comfortable around small dogs.
My dog is comfortable being handled by strangers.
Check if your dog displays this behavior around strangers:
Has your dog ever growled at a person or other dog?
Has your dog ever bitten a person or dog?

Thank you! We’ll be in touch.
